One of my favorite parts of being an author is connecting with educators who bring stories to life for children in such creative and meaningful ways. Recently, I had the chance to sit down with Teacher Casey for a fun and engaging conversation about my books—and the wild places that inspire them.

Bringing Real-World Adventures into the Classroom
In this interview, we explored how my children’s books The Little Grizzly Who Walked Like a Boss, Little Grazer, Big Dreams, and Adventures of Jolly are designed to take kids beyond the page and into the real wilderness of Canada and Alaska.
Teacher Casey creates such a welcoming, curious learning environment, and it was wonderful to talk about how stories can help children:
Discover national parks and wildlife
Understand real animal behavior
Learn respect for nature and conservation
Feel inspired to explore the world around them
Why These Stories Matter
During our conversation, I shared the heart behind my books—how they are inspired by real bears and real places my family has experienced over the years. From spotting wildlife in Banff to following bears on live cams in Katmai, these moments became the foundation for stories that blend adventure, education, and emotional growth.
We also talked about something I care deeply about: helping kids see wildlife not as something fictional, but as something real, powerful, and deserving of respect.
A Special Thank You
I’m so grateful to Teacher Casey for the opportunity to share this journey and connect with young readers, parents, and educators in such an authentic way. Conversations like these remind me why I started writing in the first place to spark curiosity, inspire courage, and nurture a lifelong love of nature.
If you haven’t watched the interview yet, I hope you’ll take a few minutes to tune in. It’s a wonderful glimpse into the stories behind the books and the wild places that continue to inspire them.
